Gananoque B & B Accommodation

Gananoque Fast Facts and Information

A quaint Ontario town, Gananoque offers its visitors a welcome change of  pace. From its five star restaurants, convenient B&Bs, and unique shopping opportunities, to its daily excursions on the St. Lawrence River to view the 1000 Islands, Gananoque offers all those who pass through its gates an experience which makes the town a destination like no other.

Conveniently located adjacent to Hwy 401, and on the north shore of the St Lawrence River, half way between Toronto and Montreal, Gananoque is the entry point to the picturesque 1000 Islands (there are actually more than 1800 of them).

Gananoque, pronounced GAN-AN-OCK-WEE, was first identified in 1686 on Deshaise's chart of the St. Lawrence as Gananocouy. The town itself was founded by Col. Joel Stone, one of the many United Empire Loyalists who relocated to Upper Canada following the American Revolution.

Today, the Town of Gananoque offers an enviable quality of life for all. We welcome those who plan to visit, and those who plan to come to stay, to sample what Gananoque has to offer. Welcome to the Canadian Gateway to the 1000 Islands!

The St. Lawrence river that borders Gananoque offers a wide selection of fishing opportunities for the serious or first time angler.  Among the many types of fish that can be found in the Gananoque and the St Lawrence rivers are:  Muskellunge (muskie),  Largemouth Bass, Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Bullhead, Channel Catfish,  Rock Bass, Sunfish, Bluegill, Sturgeon, Walleye, Salmon and Pickerel.  Guides and equipment rentals are available.

Boat launching ramps are located on St. Lawrence Street in Gananoque, and at many of the marinas, lodges, tourist resorts and campgrounds in the area. The Gananoque Municipal Marina slips available for transient boaters.
