To fill your days there are a large variety of options to choose from. Sail for a day on the M. V. Lady Rose or Francis Barkley to the quaint village of Bamfield or cruise through the picturesque "Broken Islands" group to the unique village of Ucluelet.

Port Alberni is the ideal spot for those who have a love of the arts where you can visit some of our many artisan studios. If want to get close to nature consider a day of easy hiking with "Rainbird Excursions". Plan a day or more to go sea kayaking in the Broken Island Group.

Spend time in the Alberni Valley viewing the mighty salmon as it jumps the crashing waters of Stamp Falls.

Lay on the quiet beach of Sproat lake and view the Majestic Martin Mars  water Bombers, largest of their kind in the world. Take time to visit the base and learn about these great "birds" perhaps buy something in their new gift shop.

Walk to the Petroglyphs or picnic in the woods. We also recommend exploring the 20-km long Log Train Trail for a day's easy hiking. Charter fishing here in the "Premier Ultimite Fishing Town" is second to none so you might give that a try. Charters can be arranged for you.

Port Alberni has an excellent historical society so you may want to spend time taking one of two walking tours of the town, visiting our museum or the McLean's Steam Sawmill National Historic Site. The mill site also includes a collection of heavy industrial vehicles and locomotives. The Steam Train Society will be running the steam train 5 days a weekevery summer. Come and enjoy this 35 minute ride into the past and a day exploring the mill, it's a step back in time!

Remember that Port Alberni is a scenic 90 minute drive to Pacific Rim where you can go whale watching and walk along Canada's longest beach!

Don't forget your golf clubs as you can spend time on either the 9-hole Executive or picturesque 18 hole courses. Great Central Lake is your gateway to Canada's highest waterfall: Della Falls. Select the 2-4 or 4-6 day trip to boat or canoe to the head of this intermediate hiking trail. This hike will take 5 - 8 hours one way through pristine forest. Camp overnight and visit Beauty Lake the next day before you start back. Don't forget about our wildlife and bird sanctuary. Your options are many when you come to the Port Alberni Valley.
